SDML May COVID-19 Update

Remote learning has been the reality for the last 2 months for students and their families.  There has been varying levels of student participation across the district. The district recognizes that there are a number of reasons for this.  Teachers will be including the level of engagement for each student and be providing recommendations for the next school year as per the Recovery Learning information provided by the province.

We understand that many of our families are feeling the remote learning fatigue.  There is an end date in sight.  The June timelines for students and teachers are:

June 01, 2020 – The last of the learning packages will be sent home and are to be returned by June 12.  (Students / parents please contact the teacher if you require additional consideration or support).

June 15 – 19, 2020 – Teachers will be working on assessments, report cards and recovery learning recommendations.

June 22 – June 30, 2020 School personnel will be working on return to school and student transition planning.

Reports will be ready on June 29.  Please call the school if you require a paper copy.

Play structures on school grounds are now open.  The Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO) has deemed playgrounds and play structures to be “low risk”, in terms of transmission of the COVID-19 virus via community use of such infrastructure. Further, the CPHO has also indicated, “there are no specific requirements for cleaning of outdoor play-structures”.  Please remember to practice social distancing and to wash your hands.

The district is currently working on a school reopening plan.  At this time, we are unsure of when that may be but we want to make sure we are as prepared as we can be.  We will be using the UNESCO COVID-19 information shared on the Manitoba Education website. Health and academic support will be the two areas for planning.  The plan will be shared closer to when a reopening date is announced.  We will be following the CPHO’s recommendations.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call 204-677-6150 or email sdml@mysterynet.mb.ca  Take care and be safe.
